ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2017) – UCF students David Nash and Joe Sleppy will attend the Blackstone LaunchPad Techstars Training Camp Oct. 17-18 in New York. There they’ll gain access to a globally recognized network and participate in workshops to help them grow as entrepreneurs.

The event stems from a partnership between two leaders in the startup space, Techstars and Blackstone LaunchPad. Blackstone LaunchPad, a campus-based entrepreneurship program, has been a figure at UCF since 2013. With its sponsorship, the UCF Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership funded the students’ participation in the event.

Only two students from each campus program were selected to participate. Sleppy, a UCF student and coach for the LaunchPad at UCF, was selected for his continuous involvement in the school’s startup community. He said, “I’m most excited about meeting other people and hearing their creative genius behind the world’s problems.” His current endeavor is Capacitech Energy, a startup focused on commercializing a one-size- fits-all capacitator for the electronics industry.

Nash was selected to participate for his strides with IDem Systems, a business he founded. His goal is to provide law enforcement a field drug testing system that is both cheaper and more reliable than the current standard. His passion for his startup stems from a desire to help drug-stricken communities.

Founder of the UCF Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and executive director of the Blackstone LaunchPad at UCF, Cameron Ford, will also attend. He’ll participate in staff sessions to learn new ways to help student entrepreneurs grow. On day two, UCF alumni and founder of O’Dang Hummus, Jesse Wolfe, will host a fireside chat with Techstars founder, David Cohen. Overall, UCF will be well-represented at the event.

The UCF Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership was founded to make entrepreneurship an essential part of the UCF experience. Through a free coaching program, workshops and startup competitions, it’s helping students unleash their full starter potential.

Blackstone LaunchPad is a campus-based experiential entrepreneurship program open to students, alumni, staff and faculty offering coaching, ideation and venture creation support. It is modeled on a successful program originated at the University of Miami and was further developed and expanded by the Blackstone Charitable Foundation.
